Complaints
The Ontario College of Teachers investigates complaints against our members. These complaints may be about professional misconduct, incompetence or incapacity.
Complaints against our 238,000 members are rare. About 90 teachers face a public hearing in any given year. Each case is heard by a three-person panel of publicly appointed and teacher-elected members. The panel rules on the case and decides on an appropriate penalty.
Teachers who are accused of professional misconduct have a right to procedural fairness. This includes the right to answer, to be presumed innocent until proven otherwise, and to have matters dealt with in a timely manner.
If you have concerns about a teacher, please read the Complaints Process before submitting a complaint.
